rebecca winters has written another keeper!

The heroine meets the hero in the most amazing way. She has to clean this office building and she cleans the suite of a Greek shipping tycoon. An art student, she has to find scraps of paper to finish an assignment for her class. It's a collage. She made a collage of the building owned by the hero. Anyway, he needs that scrap of paper. it's a phone number which could lead back to the woman he loved in his past, the woman who gave him the scar. When the heroine and the hero meet in his office, he demands to know where the paper is. Of course it is in her collage which is now locked up at the university. He goes there with her to retrieve it, then takes the collage to her apartment to get it off the convass. That's when the start to fall in love and she ends up going to Greece with him. It's an incredible story caught up with a Greek myth. I don't know how Ms. Winters does it, but she hooks me every time.

Greek tycoon Perseus Kostopoulos is scared, both inside and out by his first love, Sophia.
He has had very little love in his life.
Then along comes brave, smart, lovely Samantha Telford. She cleans his office at night, she is working her way through college. So it is taking a little longer for her because she has to support her self. She can not go full time after her mother's death.
Sam is putting together a collage of his office building for art class.
The teacher insists that all the students use only scrap paper, to be found in the street, on the floor or the ground. They can't get the paper from the garbage or make the trash themselves.
Sam's masterpiece needed just one more piece to complete it. She found it on the floor of Perseus' office.
Only this paper wasn't trash, it accidently blew onto the floor.
Perseus needs the paper, it had the phone number of his long lost love on it.
He makes Sam go to the school to get her art work. Sam has to take it apart, only the number is lost because of the treatment Sam did to make it fit her collage.
To pay for her error Perseus asks her to pose as his wife, for the day time, and he will grant her three wishes.
Sam fell in love with Perseus at first site, and Perseus has loved Sam because of a picture he bought that her absentee father painted of her mother a long, long time ago.

This is a nice, short book that covers much of the same ...

I've been reading Katy Bowman's books, particularly her recent "Whole Body Barefoot". This is a nice, short book that covers much of the same territory. Splichal and Bowman disagree at some points but even though most of the material overlaps they approach the issues of foot anatomy and function form different perspectives so both books are well worth the read. Splichal covers neurology more completely and her exercise section is excellent. I would definitely recommend "Barefoot Strong" particularly if you are having any issues transitioning to a barefoot lifestyle or if you are an older (hopeful) barefooter.

Dr Splichal obviously knows her field. She presents the benefits of barefoot health (aka Movement Longevity) with the zeal of a missionary. She is an entrepreneur building a following. Unfortunately, the presentation in this book is not ready for prime time.
I disagree with an earlier reviewer that this book is suitable for laypeople. As such person, I need pictures and diagrams of foot and body parts to understand what is being discussed; even more so with proposed exercises–the “secrets” promised in the subtitle. There are none in the Kindle version I read.
So, in this age, one puts links in an e-book. That is a good idea; it is a better idea if the links actually work. In this book, they do not. The website one finds via the book links merely promotes the book; it does not display exercises promised in the book.
Perhaps a revised edition will correct these problems. Perhaps someone at the author’s publisher will actually test and correct the website. Perhaps this book will be worth even the modest cost when those problems are addressed. Until then, don't waste your time with this book.

This book is a perfect balance between what a therapist or a layperson may need, not overly laden with clinical data, but plenty of information regarding running shoes, supplementation, or information on exactly what protocols to use to improve your barefoot performance to prepare for overall improvement of your foot to core activation, and overall movement performance. Kudos to Dr. Splichal for a totally useable text. I look forward to your next offering!

I read this book about 10 years ago. I remember the first few chapters being amazing because both my husband and I fit exactly with the needs as described. My brother and his wife are going through lots of issues and I decided to see if I could find it here on amazon. I saw it had some one star reviews and twos, and wanted to see what they were given for, because I enjoyed it so much more than that.
I will say, I can see a lot of the points given in those one star reviews. It was written in a different time, true. However.....I didn't get from it what a lot of these people did. For one some saw this as stating that a man was the one who would stray and they were sex driven. Half of that is true, sex is one of the mans top 5 needs. But it did NOT make it sound as if only the man would stray. It isn't even stating that the there will definitely be affairs. Its a helpful insight to help prevent those thoughts. If you just look at the top 5 needs of the woman, and the top 5 needs of the man and think they fit both you and your spouse, then this book can help if you are having issues or had issues and trying to understand or move past them.
You also have to have the 'traditional' sense of family, which you most likely will if the needs fit with your needs.

So even reading this list you can see its based on the very basic roles of man and woman. Just because there are so many women out there who want that dominating, equal, or independent life doesn't mean its ALL women. There are lots who still want to play the role of taking care of the family and husband and many men who want to be the provider and be taken care of. But both roles have to fit that situation in order for this book to be helpful.
That doesn't mean a two income family wont benefit from this at all. This means you might just have to adjust some of the needs. If you want to find helpful insights you will make and imply the helpful parts and hence it wont be a waste of money. There are no easy fixes or ways to make your marriage work. YOU have to make it work and if you feel you wasted your money then chances are you will continue wasting your money on other resources as well.
My husband and I both benefitted from this. 7 years into my marriage, my husband and I were not in a very happy place. This book made me understand why I started having feeling for another man, even when I logically knew I loved my husband and shouldn't stray. But I sure could have. Luckily I moved away before that went any where, but had I stayed, I know I could have. My husband strayed once as well....at that point is when I got this book, because I KNEW it just wasn't him. Basically he was missing two or three of his needs and I was missing three, but the point is if you know the needs and can understand how you can fill them, you avoid the possibility of straying or even the want of it.
I really hope this helps someone. Even if only one!(my husband and I have been together 21yrs now since 1992 in high school, married in 1994)

Solid book but sometimes extreme

His Needs Her Needs is a book that was recommended to me by a pastor. I did not know what to expect from the book but found a lot of the contend helpful.

The entire premise is that you need to safeguard your marriage from an affair. Harley argues that the best way to do this is for each spouse to meet the five essential needs of their partner. He also accurately points out the the top five needs of men are quite different from the top five needs of women. From the conflict my wife and I have had in the past I agree that the needs of husbands and wives are different and I would also agree with Harley's assessment of what the top five needs of women are. I'm not so sure his top five needs of men thesis is air tight.

Much of what he has to say is also based on his self-created premise of the idea of "Love Bank." He says that the reason people love each other is because throughout the course of dating and knowing each other they begin to meet some of each others needs, therefore making "deposits" into each others love bank. We then carry around a balance of love points for each other than are our main source in determining how we feel about our partner (or anyone else for that matter). I think there are things to learn from this theory but I do not believe it is as foundational or all-explaining as the author assumes. He makes the claim that even in long periods of absence our love banks for the most part remain at the balance they were when we were last with the other person. I don't think such is always the case.

The book's outline rotates between the needs of men and the needs of women with each chapter rotating between the two partners and addressing a specific need. Each chapter then ends with a set of questions addressed to the men, a set addressed to the women, and a set for the couple to answer together. This makes the book a great source to read with your partner. The book also has three appendixes with helpful resources such as an interests survey. This helped my wife and I identify some new activities we want to try together. I think he then goes a little to the extreme when he suggests a partner never participate in an activity in which their spouse does not also enjoy and would not participate with them.

A lot of the principles Harley gives are based off real experiences he has seen from counseling many troubled couples. Though he speaks of specific cases I think most married people could identify in part with many of these stories. He speaks with authority and care as well as being very level headed when discussing marital problems and affairs. The final chapters are a guide to dealing with an affair and though that is not my situation I will certainly keep the book on file for use if that situation should ever occur with someone I know.

I would recommend this book to pretty much every married couple as I think there are enough common issues dealt with that every couple can draw something from it.

Amazing Book! Invaluable for Pre-engaged Couples

We read this book together before we got engaged, and the way it promotes honesty and awareness of eachother has played a huge part in the success of our relationship and marriage. When I bought it I was impressed by the high sales number and thought it would make a good choice out of sooooo many marriage and relationship books. We are so glad we picked this one; I don't think our relationship would be half as strong without using what we learned here.

The "on your word" recomendation has brought us to a truthful and loving understanding on more occasions than I can count. Contrary to a review about becoming a Stepford Wife, this book helps you be transparent in a loving way and avoid hidden unhappiness. It teaches how to built healthy activity habits that will bring and keep you together....And IT WORKS!

We give it with wedding gifts. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you are on the fence, remember it is probably cheaper than one copay to see a therapist! This book will teach you why and how to set healthy patterns for your relationship, and is a great way to a fantastic long-lasting start.

Great book on transients

This book presents the complex subject of power system transients in a clear and easy to follow manor with a lot of examples. It's a bummer that this book is so expensive, but it is indeed worth the price (How much is having an understanding of exactly what is going on during non-steady-state conditions worth to you?). These concepts can also be applied to the analysis of other circuits (i.e. switching transients in power electronics circuits).

The blue covered Bible of power system transient analysis.

One of the most notable features of Greenwoods text is he starts with the basics of transient electrical circuit theory and builds up chapter by chapter to the most difficult and misunderstood cases of power system transients. Especially appealing to a practicing power engineer is his dual slant on problem analysis. He not only demonstrates a mastery for the sometimes nasty mathematical analysis of transient problems, he shows his years of practical experience with logical physical explanations that reduce complex problems to several simple circuits problems. I definitely recommend this text for power system engineers interested in the transient response of power systems and how it affects all types of power equipment.

Excellent reference book

This is an excellent book that covers a lot of ground. It also a lot of challenging problems that really test your understanding of the material. The material is fun to learn, as Greenwood tries to convey the physical phenomema at work behind the mathematics. He tries to give the student an intuitive feel for what's going on. It also covers fun topics such as lighting, as well as modeling of various parasitic parameters in a power system. An excellent reference book to have on your shelf.

Get over your fear of approaching MDs

I bought this book pre-ordered before it came out. I have read it, but since then I have to admit that I haven't put the ideas into action. One of the reasons is that my practice partner was launching his own campaign to market to medical doctors.

The author of this book is a chiropractor who had a practice that did not thrive nor receive many referrals despite her being located surrounded by medical offices. She then took on a sales job for a pharmaceutical company where she was taught and became accustomed to making sales calls to medical practices. After a couple of years, she then went back into chiropractic practice armed with the knowledge and experience of selling directly to MDs.

One of the challenges that many chiropractors face when approaching a medical practice is having the proper gambit to meet the doctor. This book shows you how to do that effectively. This book will also help you get over the initial fear of approaching a medical business by telling you exactly how solicitors are perceived by doctors and staff. Hint: It's different than with chiropractic doctors and staff. If you were looking to get over your apprehension of merely approaching a medical practice, get this book.

Once you get into a medical office, do you have answers to objections from medical doctors? This book is packed full of answers to objections that are structured diplomatically and will serve to help educate the MD. The author of this book took pains to gather latest research on commonly treated conditions in the chiropractic practice.

This book will not tell you how to spread the innate love to the community, or help you sigh in the comfort of some holistic, alternative philosophy. This book is about getting the bread and butter patients suffering from back pain, neck pain and headaches. And, you'll be getting them from the medical community.

Professional Advice Worth Every Penny and More

For two years I've been meeting with MDs to bring them information about what we do at my company, Universal Health Institute. It's been a journey of success and failure, and we've clumsily worked to create a way to present ourselves that makes sense. Dr. Acampora's advice fills in alot of the blank spots, particularly the recommended dialogue and its' context. I like the fact that she went out on a limb and identified different types of doctor personalities as well an approach to communication for each one. I've met with about 60 doctors' offices (and about 125 doctors) over the last two years, and can tell that she's been there and done it. Her advice adds the necessary polish to our New Business Development department, and we are taking it seriously.

The other unbelievable gift of this book is the references she recommends to bring to the physicians. There are several chapters full of relevant references on safety of chiropractic, success at treating low back pain, neck pain, headaches.... It's perfect. I am ordering three more books for other staff members and highly recommend you do the same. This is polished, professional and sincere work to help us chiropractic doctors communicate with our medical colleagues. The ultimate goal is to give the patients opportunities to get great chiropractic care. In fact, this book is one that ultimately helps the patient - if we use it.

By the way, Dr. Acampora offers a research service [...] to keep DCs up-to-date on data that will continue to enrich our communications library. I am signing up for three months (300.00) to try it out. If the service is anything like the book I won't be disappointed; I'll be thrilled. In the meantime, I am going to meet with her to see if I can hire her to do some "Sales Training" with my staff!

Based on sales techniques that MD's are less likely to resist, and on presenting data they are likely to embrace

I bought this book about a month ago. I am a chiropractor in my 2nd year as owner of my own office after working for another chiropractor as an associate during my first year post-graduation. In the office I own now a friend of mine co-owns the clinic with me. We do very little advertising and very little in the way of costly marketing.

I am half-way through this book and it seems like a logical plan that has better chances of success than the myriad other marketing strategies I have read about regarding acquiring referrals from MD's. It is based on a sales model that MD's are already familiar with, and due to that familiarity they are more likely to give you an opportunity to warm them up to what you are selling. What are you selling? This book focuses on selling chiropractic care as a safe, cost-effective, an clinically effective, non-invasive option for a very common set of complaints: low back pain, neck pain and certain types of headaches. This book counsels you on speaking the language they speak, and emphasizing things they are likely to appreciate. A detailed strategy for getting in front of the MD and ensuring a successful conversation is laid out, with the focus on marketing and sales techniques that have proven effective in pharmaceutical sales to MD's. And don't get hung up because it's pharma sales, since sales is sales is sales. Marketing concepts across the fields rely on the same fundamental ideas.

I am yet to put this into action in a coordinated manner, but I am confident that when I do this should work out to the extent that I can find a good pool of private practice MD's, orthos and other related specialists and implement the strategies in this book properly. Time will tell. I plan on using a month or so of reading and strategizing and then a few months so ramp things up and start making quality connections. If all goes well, a few months after starting to try to draw in referrals I should be starting to see results.

Business is good at our office, and growth is steady without spending that much money on marketing, so we don't rely on this book or it's methods, but any new patient is an opportunity to increase our word-of-mouth referrals and we are looking for an additional stream of new patients to provide growth from a few different avenues. I plan on updating this review when I have something to add about the success or failure of implementing these ideas at our office.

An obvious word of caution: this is not for a subluxation-centered DC that is unwilling to ditch some words and chiropractic philosophy in general and wellness-based care specifically, or chiropractic clinics based on improving nervous system control and enhancing general health. While all that stuff is fine by me, the research does not back that up, MD's aren't receptive to that message, and it won't get you any referrals from MD's. This book is about getting MD referrals, so all that stuff about innate and subluxations isn't going to do you any good, and will probably kill your chances.

4 stars now because it is detailed and persuasive to me, and I will make it 5 if I see positive results after doing my best to apply this stuff as laid out in the book.

Unlicensed PI Matthew Scudder returns after a three-year absence to investigate the murder of a wealthy couple savagely slain in their Manhattan townhouse. Matt's now 62, and his age shows in this relatively sedate outing. There's less violence than in many cases past, and the urban melancholy that pervaded his earlier tales has dissipated, replaced by a mature reckoning with the unending cycle of life and death. The mystery elements are strong. To the cops, the case is open-and-shut: the perps have been found dead, murder/suicide, in Brooklyn, with loot from the townhouse in their possession. Matt enters the scene when his assistant, TJ, introduces him to the cousin of the dead couple's daughter; the cousin suspects the daughter of having engineered the killings for the inheritance. At loose ends, Matt digs in, quickly rejecting the daughter as a suspect but uncovering evidence pointing to a mastermind behind the murders. Block sounds numerous obligatory notes from Scudder tales past the AA meetings, the tithing of Matt's income, cameo appearances by Matt's love interest, Elaine, and his friend, Irish mobster Mick Ballou and he adds texture with some familial drama involving Matt's sons and ex-wife. His prose is as smooth as aged whiskey, as always, and the story flows across its pages. It lacks the visceral edge and heightened emotion of many previous Scudders, however, and the ending seems patly aimed at a sequel. This is a solid mystery, a fine Block, but less than exceptional. This is the 15th Matthew Scudder novel in 25 years, and readers of Block's noir series know what to expect. It's all here: a perfect evocation of the sights, sounds, and smells of New York City; trips to AA meetings in church basements; Mick Ballou's bar; and the recurring characters such as Ballou, the streetwise TJ, and Elaine, the civilizing influence. In this latest outing, Matt and Elaine attend a "Mostly Mozart" benefit concert at Lincoln Center. At the same concert are a couple who are later murdered in their Upper West Side apartment. Then, the "murderers" are themselves killed in Brooklyn. Without anyone really asking him to, and for want of something better to do, Scudder starts to pick at this case until the whole story unravels before him to a startling conclusion. Every so often, the real murderer narrates a chapter, which adds a cat-and-mouse element. But those looking for fast action will not find it here the pace is leisurely, and characters and set pieces are almost as important as plot. Recommended, especially for public libraries, where readers will ask for it.

The clues are subtle--mostly circumstantial--but Scudder follows instincts honed over nearly 40 years of police and investigative work. Block, who writes best-sellers and racks up awards in equal measure, adheres to most of crime fiction's formulas, but he still manages to bring a rare depth and power to the genre. Scudder first appeared as a drunken ex-cop wallowing in self-pity, but he has evolved into a sober, often somber, self-aware observer of modern life. Readers of the series know that the hero's journey has been arduous and often painful. The crimes in the Scudder novels are vehicles to take us to the darkest corners of human experience. AN EXCELLENT FINALE!!!!!

This is the 22nd Alex Cross novel by James Patterson and I must say it is an absolute joy to read. The first part of the story forms a well-written rehash of the traumatic but gripping events from book one that transpired concerning the Cross Family as well as simultaneously revealing new information concerning the killer/s. The reader will find that every new drop adds tension and depth to the story. As is by now almost trademarked by Mr Patterson, every chapter ends with a clever hook which makes it virtually impossible to stop reading. But why would you anyway? Just about half of the world's population are Alex Cross fans and of course they want to find out what has happened to the fictional family the world have grown to love like no other.

So read on, and learn the truth. None of the book is pretty. The victims are horrifically maimed and abused and the serial killer is leading our hero a merry little psychological dance as he leads him toward madness, depravity and a search for vengeance. The world knows Alex Cross much better than the bad guy does so we know without turning a single page that the forces of good will overcome this particular personification of evil. But the "fun" is in the reading, just like every worthwhile book you pick up. And HOPE TO DIE is no different from that perspective. From an entertainment factor, however, it stands head and shoulders above most of its specific genre. And, dare I say it, head and shoulders with the best of the Alex Cross novels themselves.

This time around, there seems to be more depth to the characters, and a higher quality of the writing virtually ensures that the reader feels closer and sympathises greatly with Alex Cross himself, as well as the other incidental victims of the lunatic running amok the pages of books and the screens of kindles scattered around the world. Even minor characters in the book play a not insignificant role in identifying and catching the killer. And of course the book is so well written that you can't help finding yourself emotionally attached to them, as well.

Finally, and this is just a minor gripe, aimed a the publishers more so than Mr Patterson. After reading such an epic, gut wrenching and emotional story, it is nice to turn the page (or refresh your kindle screen) and be met with the words, "THE END". Or even just another blank page (screen). This time around, I was met immediately with the chance to read the next forthcoming big release. Now, don't get me wrong. I am sure the next book will be an awesome, amazing read, too, but out of respect for the reading experience that we just finished, I believe it would be good to leave some space for the events just passed to sink into the consciousness of the reader.

Anyway, back to the story itself. It is shocking, revolting, and violent but an amazingly satisfying and hugely emotional ride through what seems at the book's beginning, to be an eternal valley of darkness. But like all true believers in the powers of good, keep reading, keep the faith and you will find salvation in the light. Just like Alex Cross does (or does he?). And as I have come to believe, just like James Patterson.

Good work, Sir. I can't wait to read more of your books.

worth the wait.

I didn't want to read this one I was so shocked at how JP ended the first one then to find out I had to wait almost a year before I could find out what happened. I wasn't impressed but, I bought the book devoured it and loved it. It was never ending from start to finish. The drama intrigue and fear was amazing. Going through the emotions with Alex was so gripping. You could almost feel his pain. I truly loved every bit of this book except the agonizing wait. That wasn't very nice. But I'm still a huge JP fan and ill never get enough of Alex Cross.

A really good book and very hard to put down. Well written and full of action. The fast moving pace keeps you enthralled. Although it is fiction, the reader "feels" the story and lives it throughout. Great yarn.
