Following a multi-disciplinary attitude, a business management model is adopted (the PEST and SWOT model) and political, economic, social, and military-technological factors are analyzed for each of the case studies. The result is a comprehensive political decision-making model on a national level that can serve as a means for leaders to navigate successfully in geopolitical turbulence as well as for social scientists to better understand the defeats that different countries suffer and the victories that others demonstrate.
This research, however, goes further by refining the model and pointing to the exact combination of factors that are crucial for a nation's ability to win its wars. Using a qualitative comparative analysis technique, the exact combination is traced. The results emphasize that the winning scheme blends political and social factors together: leadership, positive psychology and an inspiring national ethos prove to be a necessary, though not a sufficient, conditional combination for success. National Resilience during War fills a significant gap in the literature on the politics of war.

A great book

Mr. Simburger has written an outstanding book. I do want to correct a couple of points in the main review. the book does not cover all of Southern California rail. In particular, it has relatively little information about the Coaster [Oceanside- San Diego] or the San Diego Trolley. It also does not talk much about intercity Amtrak in the Inland Empire and the Mojave Desert. The bus maps are a little hard to read, and Mr. Simburger could use an editor to correct some typos but this is an outstanding well researched reference. I never travel anywhere on the Metrolink without reading up the relevant chapters in this book first.

Excellent information on rail transit in the five county (Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura) Los Angeles Metropolitan area. Includes the Metrolink commuter rail lines between Los Angeles and cities such as Oceanside, and the heavy rail Los Angeles Metro Rail subway system. I highly recommended this book for rail transit fans, like me.

Excellent book of prophecy

This book exceeded my expectations. I have been researching prophecy, especially since the recent world events and this book gives a lot of insight into the proof of the Bible and the people who lived and wrote then. The sources used are solid and there for those who care to check them out. It is interesting to note that some who insisted that the Bible is full of errors and mistakes have had to admit they were wrong. I look forward to many hours of enjoyment reading about and loving my Lord more. I stand in awe when I see the wonderful way HE has left so many thousands of infallible proofs through time to show us that we can trust HIS word to guide us in this life.

Couldn't get through the formatting problems

This review addresses not so much the text of the book, but the formatting...

1. There is no TOC or navigation.
2. Footnotes are left in text, and some of them are very long, making it difficult to find your place between pages.
3. Greek is not formatted, since OCR technology isn't multilingual (yet).

I read about 12% of the book, but when I realized that the Greek wasn't added at all, I knew it was a lost cause. I could pull out the PDF for comparison every time I read the book, but that defeats the purpose of buying an ebook.

I create ebooks (some with Greek) so I know that is a time-consuming task to have to manually type every Greek reference. But without the Greek, this ebook was no use to me. If you don't care about the Greek then you might be able to get all the way through it. For me it was a deal-killer.

It gets 2 stars instead of 1 because I am only out 99 cents for buying this book. Also the text (that I could read) had useful info about papyri, ostraca, etc.

I hope a publisher takes the time to redo this ebook! I would give it another shot if someone does.

So great to be able to read (mostly) the younger Melanchthon in English in this short 1962 collection

Since it is so hard to find works of this great Lutheran reformer, the author of the Augsburg Confession and Apology to same, in English, anyone interested in Master Philip's actual writings should have this good work.

Unfortunately, its primary shortcoming is that this is a very short work. Less than 200 pages. So it does NOT attempt to be a comprehensive collection of Melanchthon's writings. And, most sadly, this was a bit of a rush job. Study the Editor's Preface. Dr. Hill died suddenly in 1956. Hill was working on a larger work. But for the 400th anniversary of Melanchthon's death in 1560 the publisher wanted it finished. Flack states, "He found it necessary to rewrite the entire manuscript, altering here and there sentence structure, phraseology, punctuation, paragraphing, and translation." Odd. And interesting.

Note carefully what is in the table of contents, as I've shown below. Most of the works are from the 1520s. Only two from 1519 and one from 1539 are outside that period.

Anyone interested in this should also read Graybill's recent biography (The Honeycomb Scroll, 2015) of the young Melanchthon up through his life in early 1524. And it fits in very well with Rogness' theological overview of Melanchthon in his work, Melancthon: Reformer Without Honor (1969), which directly cites this work and many of the documents in it. I would also recommend everyone read Melanchthon's influential Loci Communes of 1521, but avoid the weak 1944 Hill translation and use the magisterial 2014 CPH translation.

A Treasure of Good Theology

I have spent years slowly gleaning and gathering the writings of Philip Melanchthon. A wise scholar once told me to spend my life getting to know one major historical figure. After reading so much of Martin Luther's material and seeing how his one companion, Melanchthon, turned the materials of theology into practical church teaching, pulpit material, and more I have spent time reading all I can one over the years and still hunt for the works of Melanchthon. The Selected Writings of Melanchthon are not that rare, but most booksellers try to get $75.00 or more for the book since the materials is over 400 years old. This copy was not only a great price, but the seller was correct in the nature of the binding, the superb condition and more. The Selected Writings of Philip Melanchthon are tools and debates that need much reflection again today as we see the church sliding toward comfort, ease, safety, and away from risk, theology, doctrine, and examining the lines drawn in the sand by God. An excellent book
