Amazing Wisdom

This was a very fast read for me, but I want to go over it again and again! There is so much wisdom in this book on finances, and Ashley teaches it in a way that shows the reader how to balance faith, with corresponding action, knowledge and understanding to receive the blessing God wants for His kids! I recommend this to every believer. It's GOOD.

This is a great book, Full of very practical wisdom. In my experience in ministry, I've noticed that most Christians struggle in the area of finances. Ashley lovingly confronts many of their crazy things Christians believe about finances and helps us to get a godly perspective on how to prosper. I really recommend this book for anyone who wants to change the way they think about money.

FAST--anything but loose! A gem.

Readers who obtain a copy of Gordon Tredgold’s new book on leadership, FAST, will enjoy a virtual feast of wisdom without having to endure turgid prose and dense theoretical proposals. With his sterling record of business success in a variety of settings and in various executive roles, Tredgold provides genuine insight into the vital elements of effective leading. As demonstrated in his two previous bestsellers (The Practitioner’s Guide to Leadership and Leadership: It’s a Marathon, not a Sprint), he obviously learned how to translate needed information to his teams in understandable and accessible concepts. The FAST acronym is so much more than a clever title—though it is that! The author provides diligent leaders with a comprehensive scheme for moving from project development to completion, maintaining focus and engagement from throughout. His straightforward expression enhances the prospect of discovering the pure gold in the concepts which he articulates. Two examples will suffice to demonstrate this clarity of thought:

Best book on how to get what you want out of business, or surprisingly, out of your life in general! Written in an engaging style and sprinkled with interesting examples of real life managerial misfires, Tredgold keeps it simple (the S in Fast) and shows how to employ his straightforward methodology to drive successful outcomes. With FAST, I believe that I have acquired a formidable tool and am excitedly looking forward to putting my new learnings into action. This book should be required reading for all business school students!

Practical guidance in a very readble format

This book is relevant for anyone leading or managing change. Its written in a chatty, entertaining way which makes it an engaging read, its got some great quotes and stories in and there's lots of variety of perspectives. Clearly Tredgold has got masses of experience of managing teams within large organizations. I did wonder if the principles, tools and methods would be appropriate for smaller business and I think most of it probably would. He comments on effective (and in-effective) leadership style, what makes change happen and what people and teams need to stay motivated. Most importantly he talks about what it takes to succeed and drive results. The whole book has an air of 'let's make success happen' which after a while is quite contagious. Very positive read.

Profound reading for those studying kaśmiri śaivism

Be aware that this title is the SAME book as the Paratriksika Vivarana (Par'tr''ik'vivara'a)...
So, if you are looking for this book wish to find it other places on AMAZON ( or compare pricing) then look for the Paratriksika Vivarana properly written as par'tr''ik'vivara'a... both are by the SAME translator jaideva singh, and original author abinavagupta-ji.
This book shown was printed 1988. The booked named Paratriksika Vivarana (Par'tr''ik'vivara'a) is a reprint that occurred 1996.

This is not an introductory book....it is also called trikas'tra-s i.e. the verses or s'tra-s of trika. It is thus named as the original author, abinavagupta-ji gives the reader/student the core principles of trika ( some know this is aligned to ka'mir 'aivism).
Let me offer just one notion so the reader can get a flavor of this knowledge.

From a ka'mir 'aivism POV brahman is recognized, yet slightly differently ( not better, just another angle).
Brahman is t't'yam brahman. What can this be ?
It is a standard point of reference that brahman is considered as o'-tat-sat in ved'nta. In trika ( or ka'mir 'aivism ) it is called the 3rd brahma.
That is , in o'-tat-sat it is the 3rd defining idea or sat that is considered. Yet this brahman is considered vast ( b'hat) , all pervading (vy'paka) and is completely in union with 'akti.
In ved'nta one may call out brahman as o'-tat-sat or as sat-cit-'nanda. In ka'mir 'aivism this whole concept can be related with one word
sau' ( sa +au + ') and is considered am'tb'ja, the very heart (h'daya) of bhairava ( parama'iva).

So we find this brahman in ka'miri 'aivism , called the 3rd brahman as there is more alignment with 'iva ( or bhairava) yet some of the points of view are different then the 'tgraditional' views of ved'nta. Again, not opposed but of a different orientation.
Is this the ONLY difference? No. I can count about 10 significant ones. Here is just a few:

Some differences ( not objections) to ved'nta:
yoga in action (karma-yoga)
mok'a and its delineation
ignorance and its ( complete) elimination
who is fit to practice yoga
the notion of m'y'
what is pure and impure
the ultimate Reality as being dormant or active ( aware of It-Self)

My only recommendation is this is not a general reading material book - it is a 'study' book. I come back to it year-in and year-out.
If one is earnest in their study this book ( also with other trika reading material) cultures the mind and intellect and improves
one's s'dhana ( as I have found).

As in previous volumes, Walsh begins each chapter with a compulsively readable narrative overview of a particular style, region or dish (margaritas, tailgating, taco trucks, fajitas, etc.), followed by a number of recipes illustrating the possibilities of each. Walsh keeps the formula fresh by rolling up his sleeves and digging deep for the secrets of fajita steak (including trips to the butcher and the meat fabricator), the origins of the taco truck phenomenon, and the delicacy that is Texas-style barbacoa-at its purest, barbecued cattle head-with infectious curiosity and enthusiasm. Grilled Stuffed Peppers

MAKES 6 SMALL STUFFED PEPPER HALVES

Stuffed peppers come out well on the grill if you don’t make them too big. I like to mix ground meats and season the stuffed peppers heavily. Be sure to cook a little of the meat mixture to test the seasonings before you stuff the peppers, since the salt and spice levels of the various sausage meats and seasoning mixes vary widely.

2 tablespoons seasoning blend of your choice
1 teaspoon salt (omit if there is salt in the seasoning mix)
1⁄2 cup white wine
1⁄2�pound Venison Sausage (page 124; or substitute breakfast sausage meat)
1⁄2�pound ground beef
1 cup cooked rice
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg, beaten
1⁄2�cup minced fresh parsley leaves
Cayenne pepper
Ground cumin
Oil, for frying
3 small green bell peppers (four lobes preferred)

Mix the seasoning blend, salt, and wine in a small bowl and stir well. Then combine the mixture with all the other ingredients except the oil and peppers in a mixing bowl and mash with your hands until all the ingredients are evenly distributed. Put the meat in the refrigerator for an hour or more to allow the flavors to blend.

Heat a little oil in a frying pan and place a teaspoon of the meat mixture in the hot oil. Cook, turning frequently, until done on both sides. Taste, and adjust the salt and seasonings in the remaining meat mixture.
�
Cut the peppers in half through the stem so that they form six half-pepper cups. Fill each half pepper with meat mixture. Mound the meat no more than a 1⁄2 inch over the top edge of each pepper. The stuffed peppers can be made in advance to this point and stored covered in the refrigerator for several days.

Light the grill. Cook pepper side down over low heat for 10 to 12 minutes, until the pepper is charred and soft. Turn the stuffed peppers over and cook on the meat side for 10 minutes. Test for doneness. Serve immediately with your choice of salsas. These are also great cold or cut into slices for sandwiches.

Like porn for foodies

I'm a Robb Walsh fan from the Houston Press restaurant reviews - and this is my 3rd Robb Walsh book purchase through Amazon. I enjoy his writing style and his tastes apparently. I also like to grill and all these recipes are within my skillset. You know what I mean - you buy Julia Childs and you go "there ain't no #$%^ing way I can cook that". These recipes bring a fresh approach to your backyard grilling. Whether you are cooking a steak for you and the Mrs. or a tailgate for the masses at Reliant Stadium - this is going to help. If you never cook a thing - you will still enjoy the stories and the writing.

Yet another gem from Robb Walsh

Like all of Walsh's titles, The Tex-Mex Grill can be read as a history and cultural lesson just as easily as it can be read for its recipes. It's filled with both vintage and current photographs, and plenty of instructions, tips and sources for perfect preparation. Most important, The Tex-Mex Grill is Walsh's typical good blend of the common and the not-so-common (but not too haughty), and the drinks to go with it all. This cookbook also seems to be geared more toward the "healthier" side of Tex-Mex...more fish and veggies for the grill. Really looking forward to trying it all.

It was eight years ago, back in the spring of 2002, when Robb Walsh's book "Legends of Texas Barbecue Cookbook". I reviewed it favorably in this column and I've enjoyed going back to that back time after time since then. Walsh told the story of Texas barbecue so well in that book, through his words and the pictures that were gleaned from countless archives. That book was so great, I swore that you could lick the pages and taste brisket.

Walsh has been pretty busy in the interim; in addition to authoring cookbooks on Texas cuisine, he is also the food critic for the Houston Press and he's racked up a couple of James Beard Awards. And now he's released another great book, one that I already love almost as much as that other one.

"The Tex-Mex Grill and Backyard Barbacoa Cookbook" ($18.99, Broadway Books, 244 pp.) is on par with "Legends of Texas Barbecue Cookbook" (and maybe even better). Just like its predecessor, this one tells its story in Walsh's folksy style. As you turn the pages you'll feel as if you're riding shotgun on Walsh's forays in south Texas and Mexico, seeking great food in out-of-the-way places. And as before, the pictures tell the story so well. This time Walsh was the lensman for about half the photos used and it's evident his photography skills are just about as well honed as his writng talents. I don't know what you'll enjoy more: reading the stories, flipping through the images or trying out the wide variety of recipes included in this book.

Trees of all kinds are included, from flowering and fruiting trees, to trees at different times of the year, with and without leaves.-Leisure Painter If you draw landscapes or anything with an outdoors background you are sure to want to include trees. This latest entry in Search Press' popular How To Draw series shows you how to draw them. Not only trees either but features of them such as bark, roots, leaves, cones and a stump. Choose from a variety of different shapes such as oak, laburnum, Lombardy poplar, Jeffrey pine and wellingtonia (no palms, rather oddly). They are shown in spring laden with blossom, in full leaf in winter, displaying autumn tints and bare in winter. As with all the titles in this series the author devotes one page at the front of the book to tell you how to use the book and this is where you find the all-important index, for there is no identification on the pages themselves. Each page has a tree or some aspects of one rendered down to five stages. This takes the beginner artist from a rough outline through to an outline sketch, which is filled in first with pencil and finally in color using acrylics. The first five steps are easy to tackle and take much of the mystery out of what most people will agree is a tricky subject, but I would personally like to see more stages (at least one) showing how the color was added. I can see that this would make for a bigger, more expensive book so perhaps part of the learning curve is tackling this part on one's own. This is one of the best entries in this useful series, and destined for my own keeper shelf.-Myshelf.com As the title suggests this is a basic guide ideal for beginners. It shows how to draw a variety of trees including Oak, Horse Chestnut, Monterey Cypress and Eucalyptus. What is provided are a range of simple, easy to copy outlines which you can trace or draw to give you the images you require. A step by step technique is used to show how to develop an outline into the finished product, as well as an indication as to the colours and shading needed to bring it alive. An unusual aspect of this type of book is the fact that the author has gone beyond just drawing trees to include flowering trees and how to create blossom. Excellent book to draw trees in a simple way.

How to Draw Trees in Simple Steps by Denis John-Naylor does just what the title says. It teaches how to draw trees. Too many art books show a beginning sketch, and a final drawing, without showing how to get to that final point. It would be nice if this author had some books on other subjects also.
