The book did not explain very well, to the point where it took a long time to figure out what had happened, and the exercise notations are confusing. For example, the first sections were easy, but I spent hours looking for an "example" that turned out to be an exercise from the exercise section. I was not the only one in the class who did this. Coupled with unclear instructor, horrible experience. I has few to no worked out examples and the answers are in notations that the instructor didn't go over.

So far this book has decided to make its own notation for things rather than use what everybody else uses. My professor is constantly having to tell us the difference between "The books version" and "The real version" I thought it was maybe just my professor that was different but I have an older linear algebra book that agrees with my professor. So I think its just the book that's different. I cant even use it to study for the test because everything is written different than what my professor wants. Its really annoying.

This book was poorly written and organized. It might be OK if you only use it as a reference. But if you have to use it for your class, you'd better find another textbook for your second source.

Yet even today everyone has visited these towns, since they survive in their abstract and distilled form through the plot-generating sets of Western movies. The Western Town: A Theory of Aggregation retells the story of 22 Western towns architecturally, from the scale of the lace curtain or sun-bleached wood coffin to the vast, empty desert. Possibly the best pan-spiritual book i've ever read....

.... and I mean that. This is no cheesy, ego-fondling "self-help" book. Whether you have been incarcerated or not, you're sure to benefit somewhat from this book. After an illuminating introduction, Bo begins with a chapter called 'The Big View', which in itself is one of the most direct, honest yet simple introductions to starting a more spiritual & disciplined life I've ever had the pleasure to encounter. Then, we have a chapter (Getting free) which outlines loads of spiritual practices, each one quite good. There's stuff from Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Islamic contemplative traditions. Each instruction is easy to understand, and makes you want to do it. Along with that there's stuff on Hatha yoga, prayer, Karma yoga (helping people as a spiritual practice), and even how to eat spiritually. Just those 2 chapters as a book would have been awesome, but to top it all off, the following half of the book is letters from convicts to Bo himself. This may not seem so spectacular, but it is. It's very inspiring. As an added bonus, the whole book is peppered with funny cartoons, pictures, quotes and Bo's funny comments. Everything he writes just sings honesty & compassion. Plus, it's only 8 bucks! Think of all the crap books you buy for 20 or so.

This books has served as a reference, but more than that a reminder of where I am, how far I have to go and the tools to get there. Bo has produced a book taking the best of Yoga, self discipline, pragmatism and compassion and produced a ruthless guide to self-growth.

Really Does Assume No Prior Knowledge!

Always and forever on the lookout for biochemistry books for the allied professional that actually teach instead of confusing the student, I came upon this little Gem from "Down Under" (Australia). Since it is a Kindle book, I had immediate access to it, and I have to say that this book is very nicely done. As the Editorial review and my Title claim, this book really does assume no prior knowledge of Biochemistry, or even Anatomy and Physiology.

Unlike most Biochemistry books out there that are huge and crammed with thousands of details for medical students, this book is specifically geared toward teaching the introductory basics to the Allied Health Student. And it does a nice job of it too.

Along with "Biochemistry for Nurses" by Raju (ISBN-10: 8180613569), "Biochemistry Explained: A Practical Guide to Learning Biochemistry " by Thomas Millar, (ISBN-10: 041529942X), and "The Chemistry of LIfe" by Steven Rose and Radmila Mileusnic (ISBN-10: 0140272739), These 4 books so far round out my Basics-of-Biochemistry Library.
